Elon Musk starts new AI company X.AI

In our last edition of WhatAI, we wrote about Elon Musk buying 10.000 GPU’s for Twitter’s last remaining datacenter.

Today the news broke that the Twitter, Space X and Tesla mogul started a new AI company called “X.AI” — to be located in Nevada.

Musk appointed himself as director.

He's joined by Jared Birchall, the director of Musk's family office, who's listed as the secretary.

Musk's new venture is expected to take on OpenAI, the Microsoft-supported AI organisation that he co-founded in 2015 but left in 2018.

It seems like Musk has a bit of a bone to pick with OpenAI, as he recently signed a letter calling for a pause on "giant AI experiments."

The rumour mill has been churning for weeks about Musk's AI ambitions, and it seems they're finally coming to fruition with his purchase of thousands of graphic processing units.

Who knows what kind of AI-powered shenanigans Musk has up his sleeve with X.AI?

Amazon joins the AI race

Amazon has launched Bedrock, a new generative AI tool for Amazon Web Services (AWS) aimed at businesses and developers.

Bedrock offers a range of models, including Amazon's Titan foundation model and several startups' models like Anthropic's Claude, AI21's Jurassic-2, and Stable Diffusion, an open-source image generator.

The tool allows users to write, build chatbots, summarize text, classify images and more based on text prompts, giving businesses a more flexible and customizable option compared to OpenAI's offerings.

Plus, Amazon assures customers that their data won't be used to train models, addressing privacy concerns.

With early adopters like C3.ai, Pegasystems, Accenture, and Deloitte already interested, Amazon seems poised to shake up the generative AI landscape.
