WHATāS THE NEWS š¤
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman warns other A.I. developers
Remember Microsoftās AI chatbot Bing giving some unsettling answers? Well, you werenāt completely wrong to develop some kind of anxiety over this.
Last week OpenAI CEO Sam Altman warned other AI scientists working on āChatGPT-likeā tools to put safety limits. And according to him, the clock is ticking. (Weāre not nervous)
Other companies who also want to jump on the AI hype are racing to bring their own version of ChatGPT. To speed up the process there is a possibility they partly or even completely ignore much needed guardrails. This would prevent the chatbot from giving advise on making dangerous chemicals with kitchen supplies, but also how to spread disinformation on a large scale.
Elon Musk who was an early investor in OpenAI, also warned of the AI software to be āscary goodā. He warned that we are not far from dangerously good AI. OpenAI was created as an āopen sourceā - a kind of search engine as counterweight to Googleās dominance.
Weāre not worried. How about you?
Bill Gates publishes a 7-page letter about AI
Bill Gates wrote a letter about AI. What do you think, did he use ChatGPT to write it for him?
When Bill Gates speaks or writes something, people listen. The man who started Microsoft and later the āBill and Melinda Gates Foundationā is known to be concerned about global issues (and global pandemics)
The billionaire is outspoken on subjects that matter to humanity; healthcare, hunger, reading, education and the workforce. He now adds AI into the equation. And wrote a 7-page letter on it titled āThe Age of AI Has Begunā.
In the letter he explains how AI can help in certain industries doing repetitive, time-consuming or complex tasks to increase productivity.
Most important is that the poorest countries and parts of society also benefit from the progress that AI beholds - so they do not get left behind.
Gates sees many ways in which AI can benefit our society:
As a tutor in education
Create content tailored to students learning styles
To learn what motivates students and what causes them to lose interest in subjects
Assist teachers by helping plan course instruction
Provide medical advise to people when doctors arenāt easily accessible
In the workforce it can be used as a ādigital assistantā
Free up time for healthcare workers: filing insurance claims / completing paperwork / drafting doctorās visit notes /analyze medical date / design drugs
Predict on medication side-effects and calculate dosage levels
Aid in the treatment of patients that donāt live near healthcare facilities
Crops and livestock: design seeds tailored to local climates and develop vaccines for livestock
āTo make the most of this remarkable new technology, weāll need to both guard against the risks and spread the benefits to as many people as possible,ā Gates wrote.
We salute Bill for sharing his view on Artificial Intelligence.
The age of AI is here, and weāre still early.
Letās benefit together!
āOf course itās disturbingā: Will AI change Hollywood forever?
It finally happened. AI has reached Hollywood.
This was unavoidable, let me explain.
Making a movie has always been the work of multiple people and disciplines. Actors, writers, producers, voice-overs and production companies. A unique habitat that thrives on creativity and its own set of rules. Until now.
With the launch of ChatGPT and other AI tools the movie industry feels a new era has arrived, where most tasks could be done by Artificial Intelligence.
Journalists at āThe Guardianā asked ChatGPT about AIās potential impact on the film industry, and the stunning answer was a list that practically entices the complete industry:
Scriptwriting : AI can write and analyze scripts more efficiently and cost effective.
Pre-production : AI can streamline the pre-production process, including casting, location scouting and storyboarding.
Special effects : AI will make more realistic special effects, at the fraction of the time and cost.
Audience analysis : AI can analyse audience data and preferences, helping studios make informed decisions which movies to greenlight and how to market them.
Distribution : AI can personalize movie recommendations for viewers and optimize distribution strategies, leading to higher ticket sales + revenue.
It looks like AI will soon take over, right?
But hereās the catch.
What makes Hollywood interesting to us normal folks is more than only the movies. We unconsciously mirror ourselves to actors, stories and the background of the people who made it. Is that the magic of Hollywood?
This is our prediction:
AI will be an assistant to most of us in society, and even Hollywood will have to deal with that.
AI is neither good nor evil. It's a tool. It's a technology for us to use.
