2 News highlights - if you got only 2 minutes

Instant video could be the next leap in AI technology

A start-up in New York is among a group of companies working on systems that can produce short videos based on text input.

The new video-generation tools could speed up the work of moviemakers and other digital artists.

Google and Meta unveiled the first video-generation systems last year, but chose not to share them with the public because they were worried it could eventually be used to spread disinformation at scale.

At this moment the videos are still a bit choppy, but experts believe they can iron out the flaws as they train their systems on more and more data.

They believe the technology will ultimately make video-creation as easy as writing a sentence.

Bill Gates says calls to pause AI won't 'solve challenges'

Calls to pause the development of artificial intelligence will not ā€œsolve the challengesā€ ahead, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates stated in an interview with Reuters.

ā€œThis new technology can help people everywhere improve their livesā€.

Gates said it would be better to focus on how best to use the developments in AI, as it was hard to understand how a pause would work globally.

He has been a bullish supporter of AI and described it as revolutionary as the Internet or mobile phones.

The world should focus on how AI can be used to better society.

Artificial intelligence can be used in many areas that would benefit things like improving education, climate change, healthcare and the workforce.

The world needs to establish the rules of the road so that any downsides of AI are far outweighed by its benefits, and so that everyone can enjoy those benefits no matter where they live or how much money they have.
