Elon Musk and tech leaders call for a halt to AI training

Elon Musk and a team of tech leaders have urged a suspension for at least six months on training powerful AI systems.

They have signed an open letter warning of potential risks, and say the race to develop AI systems is out of control.

"AI systems with human-competitive intelligence can pose profound risks to society and humanity". AI’s could flood information channels with misinformation, and replace jobs with automation.

In the future, advanced AI's may pose a "more general threat to human control over our civilization".

If a delay cannot be enforced quickly, governments should step in and prohibit it by law.

New and capable regulatory authorities dedicated to AI would also be needed.

Perplexity.ai Announces New Iphone App

Generative AI chatbot Perplexity AI has raised $25.6 million in a Series A funding round led by New Enterprise Associates.

Perplexity AI, the company known for its conversational search engine powered by AI, has launched its app for iOS. Iphone users will be able to use the Perplexity AI app to do searches on the internet.

The newly launched alternative to ChatGPT gives answers cited from sources on any topic. Where ChatGPT will often fabricate sources, Perplexity is one of the best options for a ‘fact based’ answer.

Its sleek interface, helpful features and zero ads will for sure be a deciding factor for people to start using Perplexity on their phones.

The fact that its 100% free will lower the bar for installation, and result in a growing user base. It boosts Perplexity to become one of the most important players in the AI industry.

Goldman Sachs reports: 300 million jobs could be affected by AI

We’re all afraid of the unknown, but Goldman Sachs has now confirmed: AI will take (some) of our jobs.

As many as 300 million full-time jobs around the world could be automated. This means 18% of work globally could be computerized, and the effetcs will be felt more deeply in advanced economies than emerging markets.

The reason is white-collar workers are seen to be more at risk than manual laborers.

In the United States and Europe, approximately two-thirds of current jobs “are exposed to some degree of AI automation,” and up to a quarter of all work could be done by AI completely, Goldman Sachs estimates.

Now I wish I had listened to my parents who advised me to ‘work with my hands’…
